The adjective Golden certainly suggests that this is no ordinary milk. It has a number of health benefits with its main active component being turmeric (a spice which contains curcumin – recognised by research scientists as a highly beneficial compound). Adding some black pepper to the mix makes turmeric even more bioavailable and easily absorbed by our body, thus being even more beneficial!
This is a recipe I have been wanting to try for long time, having read and heard so much about it.
So here it is:
Step 1: Turmeric paste:
- 1/4 cup of turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup of mineral water
Mix all the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until a think paste is formed. Let the mixture cool. Transfer in a small glass or plastic container and store in a refrigerator.
Step 2: The Golden Milk:
- 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric paste
- 1 cup of almond milk (soya, coconut or simply cow’s milk are all good options)
- 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
- Honey to sweeten
Combine all the ingredients, except the honey in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly and do not allow the mixture to boil. Add honey to taste.
This is a great video to demonstrate the recipe and discuss some other variations which you could also apply.
Though pepper is not mentioned here – don’t forget to add it to your recipe for those extra health benefits!
